TRICHOMONADS IN BALF
IN THE COURSE OF PNEUMOCYSTIS PNEUMONIA
( TRICHOMONAS and PNEUMOCYSTOSIS )
In advanced human pulmonary pneumocystosis, with filling of the alveolar lumens by pneumocystis, amoeboid trichomonadins can often be observed by microscopic examination of the alveolar lavage fluid.
This parasitic coinfection appears secondary, and should rather be considered as a superinfection.
It is not excluded that it plays a role in the aggravation of pulmonary lesions.
This remains to be proven, but recent studies provide arguments in favor of this hypothesis
(Jiang et al., 2024)
This superinfection of pulmonary pneumocystosis by trichomonadins is documented here by a gallery of microphotos.
